Local Ricci Shacks with the freshest shellfish and seafood right on the coast

Twenty minutes from the house, along the coast from Savelletri are dozens of family-run Ricci shacks. Just a few metres from the shoreline these informal restaurants serve the freshest seafood you’ll likely to find anywhere along the Puglian coast. Ricci are sea urchins and the Pugliese can’t get enough of them. Ricci are best enjoyed raw, scooped up with a soft hunk of bread and washed down with an ice-cold wine. The shacks also offer a full range of grilled fish and fresh pasta, a bowl of linguine will set you back 10-12euros. Sunday lunchtimes seem to be a tradition – the food on offer epitomises the elegance yet simplicity of southern Italian cooking.
