THE SEASONS

Spring

April and May at Casa Calandra and the whole Valle d’Itria is awash with wild flowers. The days are warmer and the beaches are empty. Seasonal produce is plentiful and readily available at the local markets. We love this time of year in Puglia.

Summer

June, July and August enjoy the hottest temperatures, but there is often a cool coastal breeze that helps offset the rising climes. August is the busiest month with many Italian families enjoying annual holidays by the coast as well as holiday-makers from further afield. There is always lots to do at this time of year - the evenings especially see a range of family-oriented events and festivals in the towns and local masserie, featuring food markets, live music and performances, so keep your eyes peeled for signage and advertising dotted around.

Autumn

September and October are fantastic months to visit if you are looking for something a little quieter. It is still warm, but the heat less intense and the Adriatic remains warm for swimming well until the end of October.

Winter

Puglia can be bright and crisp in the winter months with fresh air and blue skies. There are lots of festivals to celebrate Christmas and the nativity in the local towns and masserie in December. But it can get cold and will sometimes snow!
